A soot-black stone front.
Sketch Nº 001, viewed in West Yorkshire.
I was stood on the pavement looking straight up. The stone has gone black with a hundred years of soot, and nobody has cleaned it, which I rather like.
There’s a deep cornice along the top, two tall sashes, a hood over the front door and ivy slowly taking over one side.
Every building I view gets drawn, whether we end up buying it or not. I give the area and never the address.
